Throughout my life, I have been blessed with having “recorders” in my family - my Great Grandmother, Mamo; my Grandmother, Nana; my Uncle, Ronald; and, my Mom and Dad.  Mamo and Nana were recorders of words; involved in genealogy, keeping journals and diaries, and preserving our family treasure of pictures, letters and memorabilia.   Mom and Dad were recorders of images; Uncle Ronald still is, documenting everyday life, special family events and holidays.

Many of my happiest hours have been spent reading their journals and letters, looking at our family photographs, listening to family stories and learning to appreciate the simple richness of our lives and our ancestry.  As we lovingly passed around each photograph, and story after story was recounted, I learned the value of “recording” everyday events, of preserving a moment in time for the future, and of reflecting on the past.  I also learned to appreciate how powerful images can be in transcending time ~ carrying us back through our memories and history ~ and in preserving our daily lives and shaping our dreams for tomorrow.

That, I believe, is the foundation and the essence of my photography.  My hope is that I record everyday people, things and events in such a way as to reflect them with respect, passion, and creative imagination.
